Off-Duty Rescue Worker Performs CPR On Baby Elephant Hit By Motorcycle

Wild animals often come across extremely dangerous situations due to the careless actions of humans. While many animals end up losing their lives, some survive miraculously, thanks to kindhearted humans. This heartwarming story is about a rescue worker who saved the life of a baby elephant, by performing CPR on him.

Mana Srivate is a veteran rescue worker with emergency-responding experience of 26 years. After fearlessly reviving a baby elephant that was hit by a motorcycle, Srivate can now add a new unique skill to his resume, which is ‘Dumbo resuscitation’. The baby elephant and his family were crossing the road when it was faced with the accident. The unfortunate incident took place in the eastern province of Chanthaburi, Thailand.

When Srivate was notified about the injured animal on Sunday, he was off-duty. After confronting the little giant who laid unconscious to its side, Srivate immediately began his treatments. His valiant rescue efforts were captured on camera and have now gone viral.

Sharing his thoughts on the incident, Srivate stated: “It’s my instinct to save lives”. He also revealed that he was extremely worried while treating the baby elephant. The reason for this was that he could hear ‘the mother and other elephants calling for the baby’.

Srivate has no specialized CPR training. According to him, he assumed the location of the elephant-heart based on human theory and a video clip he once came across online. While his colleagues took care of the motorcyclist, Srivate conducted two-handed compressions to the little tusker. The 53-year-old rider named Anan Cherdsoongnern only sustained minor injuries.

Recalling the grueling 10 minutes of trying to save the animal’s life, Srivate stated: “When the baby elephant was starting to move, I almost cried”. When the injured yet stable baby elephant finally stood up, he was immediately taken to another location for further treatment. After ensuring the health of the little giant, it was finally reunited with its family.

Although Srivate was a highly experienced emergency services responder, he revealed that this baby tusker was the only animal he was able to revive by carrying out CPR.
